A Stranger on the Street, A Stranger to Meet

The park bench was heated
It was where I was seated
I ordered you to join
From there, the story went on

A lucid suggestion
An unforeseen connection
Moments spent relating
A rapport so placating

Engaging conversation
Psychic revelation
The wit of a Jane Austen book
To this I could get hooked

Delightful anticipation
Predictable ramification
Mere hours before my departure
I couldn’t let it go much farther

You see, what you don’t know
Beyond my affable glow
I’m an elusive mess
To this I ought to confess

A stranger on the street
Your type, I’m partial to meet
But here in lies the rub
Now you’re what I want to love

But you need not worry
This love will have no story
A surreptitious romance
Never meant to have a chance

I’m accustomed to goodbyes
No need to tell me lies
Soon I’ll fly into the night
To fade away with the moonlight
